Testing
During testing we found the unit was as good as silent at 50% load - we couldn't even tell it was powered on. As we increased the load the noise proportionately grew, but nothing that was too invasive. It was merely a significant rush of air rather than actual fan blades whirring, which is far more acceptable. The fan used is certainly of high quality, but it is louder at higher loading levels than similarly or higher spec'd models from say Tagan, Gigabyte, Ultra and Enermax we have already reviewed.
Temperature wise we got warm 37-38ºC air out the back but the sides and bottom casing was cool to touch even up to full load - the very effective removal of heat is certainly a testament to the excellent engineering behind this product.
We even "overclocked" the unit to 835W (111 percent) and it still maintained an excellent efficiency of 79.4 percent and PFC of 97 percent with the noise output comparable to 100 percent load. We left it here for at least 10 minutes and it didn't even flinch - quite happily churning out the juice. Throughout testing the unit was extremely stable and worked very well and even after all this it was still very cool to touch. The cables got quite warm, but that's to be expected given the power draw.
Testing Notes
In testing we double checked all the voltages with a multimeter at the actual connector to check there was no voltage drop between that and the machine, in order to make sure we had accurate results. The loading was also done with separate 12V weighted loading and 3.3/5V weighting to check the manufacturers claims are correct. Under normal circumstances, a PC will be far closer the the 12V weighted value then 3.3/5V.
Because of the limitations of equipment we had to split the single (massive) 12V rail into three as the loading machine was limited to 300W per channel.
